Bringing the Optomonsters to life with Specsavers!
The Optomonsters 👾
I was absolutely thrilled to be commissioned by Specsavers for their exciting new children’s campaign: The Optomonsters 👾 - a project that connects with children and their parents to promote eye health in a fun and imaginative way!
Specsavers were looking for an illustrator who could bring warmth, humour and personality to their characters - someone with specialist experience of illustration for children… and monsters in particular! - but also with experience of delivering creative workshops.
Fortunately for me, they felt my experience and style were the perfect match.
A Monster-Sized Dream Brief
Specsavers found that children are more scared of an optometrist, than a monster. To engage children and make eye tests a more enjoyable experience, Specsavers wanted to create a colourful crew of cute and quirky monster characters that capture young imaginations while promoting the importance of eye care to parents.
The workshop - Little Artists With Big Ideas
A beautiful video was created by Specsavers social media agency, Tangerine Communications, which captured the spirit and highlights of the day. This was shared on Specsavers social media and children’s YouTube channel, giving an insight into how the Optomonsters began.
From Scribbles to Spectacular
Working closely with Specsavers, I developed the monsters into campaign-ready character illustrations, blending the children’s creativity with my style to create the final Optomonster lineup.
From early sketches to final artwork, the process was a true collaboration that allowed everyone’s ideas to shine.

The Result
The final characters will, I hope, be seen as playful friends who help children feel more comfortable when visiting Specsavers for their eye-test. These characters will begin to be rolled out across all Specsavers stores from summer 2025, you’ll find them on posters, lens cloths, and fun activity books for the children while they wait for their all-important eye tests in store.
This project was not only a joy to work on, but also a brilliant learning experience.
I loved every minute of it - and can’t wait to see where the Optomonsters go next! 👀
