Creating a Magical Stage: Mural Design for Francis House Hospice

This was such a fun project to bring to life! The team at Francis House Children’s Hospice wanted to create a dedicated performance space in their playroom - a place where the children could step up and become little performing stars. 🤩 🎤

Designing the Magic

I was tasked with painting a mural of a stage complete with red velvet-style curtains. I wanted to add some extra "dazzle," so I designed the backdrop with little celestial faces - moons and stars - to bring a bit of extra magic to the room. ✨🌛

The Technical Challenge

The trickiest part of this mural was the positioning. Because it was located in a corner, I had to be pretty precise with the perspective. Getting those curtain folds to look "right" to the eye from different angles took a bit of effort, but I’m so happy with the final result. 😁

The Finishing Touches The team at Francis House has such a brilliant vision for this space. They’re adding a semi-circular stage floor - which is designed to be wheelchair-accessible - along with costume boxes and rails for outfit changes. It’s going to be such an incredible space for the children to let their imaginations run wild.

I can’t wait to see their faces when they step onto their new stage!

This stage mural isn't the only project I’ve had the pleasure of creating for the children at Francis House… Take a look at the Giant Rainbow and Bug Mural I painted for their corridor, and the Bedroom Bugs I created for the rooms.
